What is Stellite®?

Stellite® is a special cobalt alloy with excellent properties for sawing applications.

Grade #12 Stellite ® is typically used in wood sawing applications and consists of 52% Cobalt, 30% Chromium, 9% wolfram and 1.8% Carbon. Grade #12 has a hardness of 47-51 HRC while standard saw steel is approximately 42-44 HRC.

Why use Stellite®?

Because Stellite® is harder than standard saw steel, it is more wear resistant and retains sharper edges on your wide band saws for longer periods of time. Stellite™ is also resistant to the chemical abrasiveness of certain woods.

Because Stellite® tipped bandsaws are side-ground, they typically produce finer surface finishes and perform better all-around than traditional steel saws .

Another common consideration is the fact that Stellite® tipped saws do not require the manpower, equipment and time for fitting that standard swage tooth steel saws require.
